First World history was not as good as I hoped it would be... We are starting to introduce history into the mix and it just doesn't seem like we are getting as much done as I would like. We are covering some quotes on teaching from Berkeley, just to reinforce how we do things; following that exercise, students will begin research into hunter-gatherers. First class was just an average performance on my part, frankly, I just went too slowly and we ran out of time to get everything done I hoped for. We got what I wanted but not as much as I would have imagined we could. Pd 2 was a wash. I need to get more inspiration into the students. We had differentiated readings based on their view of their reading level. Zero students selected the challenge readings; instead, they went for drab textbook style garbage. The next 2 periods will be better. I know it!
WG- I will let you know when i get there, the goal is to have ownership of our first big idea as of the end of class today.

Today didn't really work for me. I read the article twice, and i still didn't feel like i knew the hunter-gatherers. I wasn't able to fill much out on my sheet either. Maybe if you posted the pretty purple sheet on the wiki it would help?
ReplyDeleteAlso, i love to listen to you talk. I really do. But when you stop talking, my mind goes blank. It's like i've gone into sponge mode, and when you stop talking the sponge wrings itself out. I understand it all when you are talking, but afterwards I am perfectly clueless. How can we comprimise this to make class better for us both?
Well... Dont worry, this hunter gatherer stuff is a week long, you dont have to get it yet. Also this article is a tough, tough, tough read. You had to take in a lot of information yesterday, perhaps some time to decompress would help. By the end of the week we will definitely be there!
ReplyDeleteToday went MUCH better for me. I understood what we were doing a lot better and more throughly. Other than the 'not knowing what's going on' phase that I had (sorry i was lost) i felt that today's class was more productive.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!!
No problem! A lot of our lessons are going to be 2-3 days and you wont always get closure when you leave. To be honest though... your post on here helped me to direct a good bit of instruction toward making sure you had it! Thanks for being the brave one who let me know!
ReplyDeleteNo problem! That's what this is for, right? =)
